So if you haven’t heard already Assassin’s Creed 4 images were leaked over the past weekend and following that Ubisoft came out and announced that it was currently in development. The images that were leaked showed our assassin cloaked dressed in pirate attire!
Assassin’s Creed is undoubtedly one of the biggest franchise in the gaming industry and it came as no surprise the huge amount of interest the next in the series churned up on the internet. However, the games announcement spurred on quite a number of posts about alternative settings for the game and this got me thinking: what would be the next best setting for the game?
I personally felt the addition of ship battles in AC 3 was pretty good from the outset but by the end of the game I felt they were a bit to overused and something better could have been done about this. It’ll be interesting to see how big a part they are going to play in Assassin’s Creed 4.
This was one possible suggestion that generated a lot of interest and as a setting alone it could make for a very interesting game. The Japanese scene would play very well into the hands of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, however in order to shift the franchise in this direction, Ubisoft would have to seriously change the narrative in order to suit. A wonderful post on reddit fully outlines this and can be found here!
Regardless of the fact that the narrative doesn’t lead to a Feudal Japan game this would be one hell of a setting in my opinion and if Ubisoft could somehow twist the narrative to suit then I would relish a chance to play in this sort of setting.
Early 1800’s London
Another setting which would play wonderfully into the Assassin’s Creed franchise and would lead on well from the American Revolution settings that we were witness to in AC3. If Ubisoft were to go in this direction with the franchise then we would be able to enjoy the tight, overcrowded streets of London as well as some of the most well known landmarks in the world such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace!
Running through the heavy fog in tight London streets or running across the rooftops of Buckingham palace would make for a very decent game and it doesn’t seem all that unlikely for maybe the next iteration of the franchise.
With graphic novels portraying a Nikolai Orelov in his quest to kill the Tsar and try to regain a Staff of Eden, a game set in Russia could very well be on the cards in one of the next iterations of the franchise. In the novels Nikolai was sent to infiltrate the Tsar’s imperial train and kill him so the whole train memory sequence could be very interesting however it would probably be more on par with the Uncharted platforming levels if they were to go down that path!
I personally would love to see one of the next games set in London as I feel that the settings would play incredibly well into the Assassin’s creed gameplay style. This is just my opinion but if you think any other locations are better then please don’t hesitate to post them in the comments section below!
